Litha Kanda was born in a small village of Umtata, a small town in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. At a young age he moved to Thokoza, a small township in the East of Johannesburg. He was introduced to photography through the Of Soul and Joy Project, a project started to develop and teach photography in the townships of South Africa. He won a scholarship to study at the Market Photo Workshop, where he is currently finalising his Advanced Programme. His work was exhibited in the 2016 Of Soul and Joy Photo Festival Edition 2 as well as in the group exhibition, Place of Peace, at the Stop Sign Art Gallery in Newtown, Johannesburg, showcasing the work of the Of Soul and Joy collective in 2018.
